Featured Athlete: Jamie

Jamie has Cerebral Palsy and is quite an activist for accessibility issues. He has traveled as far as France to help bring awareness to this issue. He even keeps a blog on living life with Cerebral Palsy in a wheelchair, which you can visit here Confessions From A Wheelchair.

He has participated with Athletes in Tandem in the Georgetown to Idaho Springs half marathon and really enjoyed it. Here is a little thank you from his parents-

Did You Know:

The term cerebral palsy refers to any one of a number of neurological disorders that appear in infancy or early childhood and permanently affect body movement and muscle coordination but don’t worsen over time. Even though cerebral palsy affects muscle movement, it isn’t caused by problems in the muscles or nerves. It is caused by abnormalities in parts of the brain that control muscle movements. The majority of children with cerebral palsy are born with it, although it may not be detected until months or years later. The early signs of cerebral palsy usually appear before a child reaches 3 years of age. Cerebral palsy can’t be cured, but treatment will often improve a child’s capabilities.

The days have been flying by & we have been getting a few inches of snow out here. Here is an update from our training schedule last week & yesterday.
Jan 30 – 6.5 miles & strength training
Jan 31 – 4 miles
Feb 1 – 8.02 miles
Feb 2 – Cross-train bike ride for an hour
Feb 3 – 3 miles & light strength training/preventative exercises
Feb 4 – 16 miles

We have been holding up quite well through training & are looking forward to beginning to push it these last 3 months until the marathon!
